The Ruby Range trekking is a multi-day hiking journey true to the statement “off the Beaten Track”.
The Ruby Range, situated just outside of Kluane National Park, offers some of the finest alpine hiking in the Yukon. This trip combines easy to moderate hiking, a high potential for wildlife encounters, great camp sites and splendid vistas into the high and snow-covered peaks of the St. Elias Mountains. Access to this area is only by floatplane or helicopter, this makes this a true remote hiking destination!
Day 1: Arrive in Whitehorse and meet with your guide and the other participants for meet and greet and a gear check. Overnight in a downtown hotel.
Day 2: We drive to the float plane base on Kluane Lake and fly in to a remote lake where we start our hike. Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Today’s hike will bring us in the alpine where we will set up camp for two nights.
Day 4: A day trip to a surrounding peak will reveal great vistas.
Day 5: We will pack up and hike over soft hills in the alpine to our next camp spot.
Day 6: We will meet the plane for the flight back to the float plane base and drive back to Whitehorse where we will arrive late in the day.
Day 7: You transfer to the airport or venture on your next journey.
Please note: This itinerary describes the trip July 26 to August 1. If you have more time and would enjoy more hiking days, you should consider the trip scheduled for July to 4 to 12. This trip includes 2 extra hiking days with the opportunity to set up a base camp in a second location. The extended tour is available for a supplement of $465 per person.
Are you interested in relaxing at a cozy cabin on a secluded lake? Our wilderness cabins are situated at Dalayee Lake, nestled in the rolling hills of southern Yukon, not far from Whitehorse.
The journey starts with a flight to a remote lake. Our hiking route will follow a horse trail into the alpine where the hiking options are close to limitless. Every day we will explore scenic lakes, hike up peaks and enjoy camp life. On this trip you are required to carry a pack with your personal gear, tent, sleeping pads, sleeping bag and food. The trip itinerary will allow for setting up a base camp to venture on daytrips without having to carry a big pack very day! Camp life will be relaxed and comfortable. We will be cooking fresh and simple but nutritious meals over the fire or a camp stove. At the end of the trip we will be picked up by plane and flown back to our van at the float plane base.
If you are intrigued by an area less visited, if you love swimming in pristine alpine lakes and enjoy venturing on moderate challenging hikes in a group not bigger than 6 hikers, this trip is for you.
The trip includes 2 flights by bush planes and hiking in a remote area. The trip schedule can be subject to changes because of weather conditions, especially for flying. Participants are required to carry their own pack. This trip requires a good level of personal fitness. The hiking itself is rated moderate with a daily hiking distance up to 10 km and up to 6 hours of hiking. Hiking level considered easy to moderate but good physical fitness and experience in hiking off-trails are required. The load in your backpack will be 15 -17 kg
